The Seldarine is the Elven religion of the Flanaess. According to elves, every tree in the Flanaess is connected to one another. Their roots can all be traced down to a giant oak tree called Seldarine hidden deep away in the Vesve Forest. Through the roots of the trees, elves manage to communicate with Seldarine and many other great trees, and garner information on future weather conditions, nearby elven tribes, and the general wellbeing of nature.
Elves take it as their responsibility to look after the wellbeing of Seldarine, and by extension the whole of the natural balance. Often when it warns elves about disturbances, some brave elves take it upon themselves to figure out the cause. This is one of the few incentives elves have to leave the comforts of their tribe.
There are many elves that are notable for having a deep connection with the Seldarine, especially the more "rare" elves such as dark elves, grey elves, wild elves and winged elves.
An important concept within the belief of Seldarine, is that of the Body, Mind and Soul; the three parts that make up all living creatures:
All three are what make up a creature. However, under rare circumstances, a creature can miss or lose on of these three:
One can lose one of these three components, either involuntarily or self inflicted, but only by those that possess the knowledge and power to do so, which can only be achieved through rigorous training, meditation, and experience.
Oerth has two natural satellites: Celene and Luna. These two moons are of great importance to the Seldarine faith. The two nations, Celene and Veluna are named after these two moons respectively. Observing the stands of these moons gives elves a better understanding of the balance of the world.
Celene is the smaller of the two moons, and from the point of Oerth, is about as large as the Sun. Celene is tidally locked, so it shows only one side to Oerth at all times. From Oerth, Celene appears a pale aquamarine hue.
Luna is the larger of the two moons. Luna appears, from the Oerth, as a featureless silver disk (varying between white, silver, and gray, with cloud cover creating a slight sense of changing patterns). Unlike Celene, Luna is not tidally locked with the Oerth; it rotates on its own axis and shows Oerth all of its sides.
